The LEGO Batman Trilogy

LEGO Batman: the Video Game- the first LEGO game in the superhero series.  This game allows you to play as Batman & Robin as they take down villains like: the Riddler, the Penguin, the Joker, and their goons and partners in crime like: Clayface, Two-Face, Catwoman, Harley Quinn, and others.  Some unique about this game is that you get to play both the heroes side of the story and the villains side of the story.  To do this, you first have to beat one of the hero chapters as Batman and Robin, then go to the Bat-computer to head to Arkham Asylum to play as those same villains that you just took down. The character roster for this game is very small with just the 4 heroes, the villains, and a couple of random civilian characters that you see during the villain levels.  There are 3 types of vehicles that you can use in any of the 5 vehicle levels: land, water, or air.  Land vehicles include the Batmobile, motorcycles, armored tanks, and others. Water vehicles include Bat-boat, submarines, jet skis, and other. Air vehicles include Bat-plane, Biplane, helicopters, jets, and others.  Batman and Robin can upgrade their suits with red bricks found in the hero levels, giving them abilities like, flame Batarang, freeze Batarang, armor plating, area damage with sonic suit, and many others.

LEGO Batman 2: DC Superheroes- the second game in the LEGO Batman series, and the first LEGO game to include talking characters in a licensed LEGO game, (there were LEGO games with full on talking, and other sound effects back in the late 90s and early 2000s).  The plot of this game revolves around the Joker and Lex Luthor teaming up to defeat Batman, Robin, and Superman, and getting Superman elected President of the United States using mind control from the laughing gas. You still have the 3 types of vehicles in the game that you can use in free roam in Gotham City to unlock new items and complete races.  When you are flying around as Superman in Gotham City, the John Williams Superman March will play for as long as you are in the air.  The character roster for this game includes all of the same characters from the first game, plus the Justice League members consisting of: Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Cyborg, Flash, Martian Manhunter, and of course Batman. There are also some new villains in the game like Sinestro- a villain of Green Lantern, General Zod- a villain of Superman, Brainiac- another villain of Superman who is the main villain of the sequel LEGO Batman 3, and others.  Characters are unlocked in this game by either fighting the villains in the open world of Gotham City, or building gold brick doors and letting the new heroes out. The end of the game end with Brainiac saying that he had found “it”- referring to the Green Lantern’s Power Ring.

LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham- set about a year after the events of LEGO Batman 2, this game leaves Gotham City, and goes to the different Lantern Worlds, that you get to explore, as well as the Justice League Watchtower satellite, the Moon, and the Hall of Justice.  Unlike the previous LEGO Batman games, you can only use your vehicle on only one of the game’s hub worlds where all of the races are found.  Like LEGO Batman 2, when you are flying around in the game as Superman, and now other characters, the hero’s theme music will play in the background.

LEGO Batman 3’s Strangest Characters:

There are over 150 characters in LEGO Batman 3, most of them have some sort of connection with the Justice League, the many different Lantern worlds that appear in the game, or some from the weird part of DC comics like: Condiment King, Music Meister, Polka-Dot Man, Ambush Bug, and then there is Conan O’Brien who doesn’t even have anything to do with DC comics so why was he in the game. The powers and abilities for these characters are very lame, like throwing polka-dots, shooting ketchup and mustard guns, or not having any powers at all.

Some characters that I wish could have been in the game instead of these are: the Legion of Superheroes consisting of Cosmic Boy, Lightning Lad, Saturn Girl, and Brainiac 5; Justice Society of America with heroes like Flash Jay Garrick, Wildcat, Green Lantern Alan Scott, Sandman, Hourman, and the Atom Smasher; and maybe a DLC character pack for the Smallville Justice League with characters like Clark Kent in his red leather jacket suit, Oliver Queen, Bart Allen, Arthur Curry, Victor Stone, John Jones, Dinah Lance, Chloe Sullivan, and Lex Luthor.
